As a trainer, I always encounter dogs with fear issue or stress. My own dog suffers from seperation anxiety. D.A.P products were first introduced to me through my vet. I've used it for my dog and it helped him to calm down and reduce barking intensity. Then I did some more research, learning that Dog Appeasing Pheromone is not a gimmick it is a scientific developed scent training technique. Only the dog can smell it and recongnize as a calming agent. It is safe to use around babies and other pets. I recommended this to many of my clients who deal with a "stressed out" dog, and it is proven to work. My recommendation would be to have a D.A.P collar to wear (if the dog stresses when he's outside encountering social situations). If not, then do the plug-in diffuser at home. Have the plug-in by the crate or the confined area where the dog spends most of his time at.
I would suggest to pet owners to give this product a try and at the same time seek professional training help.
